1988 Red Hot For Sale - NOW SOLD
I am reluctantly selling my 1988 Red Hot mini.
For those that don't know, the Red Hot was one of two special editions in 1988 (the other was Jet Black). It's a standard 998cc car but with tinted windows, sunroof, special upholstery, red seat belts and "Red Hot" decals round the outside.
I originally bought this car nearly 10 years ago for my son after he passed his driving test. He used it all through University and afterwards, but it had to come off the road a couple of years ago when rust took a hold.
Since then I have replaced both sills, the drivers side floor, the windscreen scuttle panel, both front wings and the front panel, as well as repairing the inner wings, etc. It has just sailed through its MoT, and it will be taxed shortly.
Mechanically, the engine is extremely healthy, despite its 99,000 miles. It has had a Stage 1 kit fitted, with lcb manifold and straight exhaust. The front brakes have been uprated with drilled and slotted discs and EBC pads. It goes like a rocket (certainly much quicker than my other mini, a 63 Cooper) and stops almost like a modern car (and without the benefit of a servo).
The interior is original. The red piping on the seats has faded slightly, and the "Red Hot" logos on the front seats are a bit worn, but otherwise it's very tidy. There is no radio in it at present, but it does have the bracket under the dash, plus a pair of speakers fitted in the rear parcel shelf and a small pair of speakers fitted under the dash at the front.
This is a reluctant sale, as I said at the start, because I absolutely love driving this car. It never fails to put a smile on my face. However, my son has now bought a Mk 1 Golf GTI and doesn't want his mini back, and I have another mini plus various other classic/modern cars, so I can't really justify keeping it. Hopefully someone can give it a good home.
I have also advertised the car on Autotrader at £2,450. Obviously I am open to sensible offers. I am located in Hertford (handy for the M25/A10/A1(M)) and you are welcome to come and have a look any evening or weekend. You can contact me by email at tim_roberts65@hotmail.com
